Fair Board Member Position Available
Position Summary
The Bonneville County Fair Board is a volunteer governing board appointed by the Bonneville County Commissioners. Fair Board Members provide strategic oversight of the Bonneville County Fairgrounds, including operations, finances, events, and community engagement. Board Members work collaboratively to ensure the fairgrounds remain financially stable, well-maintained, and responsive to the needs of the community while upholding legal, ethical, and policy standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Establish and review fairground policies and long-term strategic goals
· Oversee fairgrounds operations, facilities, and property maintenance
· Review and approve budgets, financial planning, and fundraising efforts
· Award contracts and review agreements related to fairground operations and events
· Support and oversee county fair programming, including livestock shows, entertainment, vendors, and special events
· Serve as a community ambassador promoting the fairgrounds and its mission
· Attend regular meetings and participate in decision-making processes
· Support and maintain strong partnerships with the University of Idaho Extension, including the Bonneville County 4-H program and local FFA chapters
Vision
The Bonneville County Fair Board believes the fairgrounds should serve as a vibrant community hub offering opportunities for gathering, entertainment, and education. The fairgrounds are envisioned as a place to celebrate agriculture, 4-H, FFA, friendly competition, local food and craft vendors, family-friendly activities, live music, carnival rides, youth livestock exhibits, and local traditions—creating an inclusive space that builds community and showcases the unique character of Bonneville County.
Qualifications
· Open to Bonneville County residents or owners of a business located in Bonneville County
· Interest in community service, agriculture, youth programs, or event management preferred
Commitment
· Four-year term appointed by the Bonneville County Commissioners
· Monthly meeting held the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
· Average time commitment of 8–10 hours per month
Other Considerations
· Workload increases during fair season, budget development, and special event planning
